Whether a European "Salon", or in an Indian "Adda", the tradition to come together and unpick the issues of the day is an old one. in our modern world, it's not done well enough. We're changing that.

Our group conversations open up the opportunity to deal with the messy together. By asking things that we may not in public, by sharing uncertainties and not fully understanding can we actually get to the heart of what we think, which will shape what we do and how we show up in the world.

Our "chai & chats" are with people who've wisdom to share, who are doing phenomenal work and are consciously creating ripples in the world. We're particularly interested in learning from people pushing different perspectives, regenerative practitioners and those in the majority world.

THE INHERITANCE OF TRAUMA:
Genetics, Inter-Generational Resilience & Decolonising Victimhood.
Scientists have long explored how stress and trauma leave an imprint on an individual’s biology, but what happens when entire communities endure upheaval and violence across multiple generations? How does prolonged collective trauma shape the epigenetic landscape of a population and what does it mean for community approaches to resilience?
In new research, an international team looked at intergenerational exposure to violence in three generations of Syrian Refugees. The research shifts focus from victimhood to resilience showcasing how communities adapt in the face of violence. This changes the conventional narrative around trauma that labels survivors as victims who are diminished but to one that speaks to adaptability and resilience. In this session we will explore what Dr. Dajani calls “my grandmother’s wisdom” and look at what it means to challenge traditional, western scientific paradigms and why experience-based, localised research makes a difference in decolonising science, the way that we think and most importantly the way that we see ourselves.

THE GROUP ADDA WAY.

We're really protective of OUR spaces. THEY'RE SPECIAL. We'd love for you to come to one of our ADDAs, we really would but please understand the kind of space it is before you register. These work because they're opportunities for people to connect, we'd welcome the chance to connect with you;
-
Unless totally necessary, we ask you to have videos on - Be seen.
-
These aren't Q&As, they're conversations so the richness is dependent on you and how you show up - Be open.
-
Spaces are limited so this isn't a "I'll listen in whilst I drive", or a "i'll see how I feel on the day" gathering - Be present.
-
If you can't make it, let us know so we can offer the space to someone else. These are deliberately small & free - Be respectful.
-
There's no chatbox - they're a distraction and don't encourage deep listening OR ACTIVE PARTICIPATION - Be curious.

We hold ourselves to the following principles FOR each gathering.
01
SMALL
so that we can share & learn intimately - this isn't a numbers game, it's about the depth of the experience.
02
CURIOUS
about the things we don't / won't talk about - no question is too big or small and no reflection is wrong or right.
03
04
OPEN
it only works if we're ready to show up - vulnerabilities, uncertainties and all.
INCLUSIVE
of perspectives, experiences, race, identities and lived realities - we're done with binary views & representations.
Ways to get involved.
an adda is only as good as the people who make it. we'd love for you to feel part of it, to contribute and shape the richness of each conversation.

be a conversation catalyst
We’re always looking for speakers/thinkers with interesting things to say & ideas they want to explore. Or maybe you don't really get what's going on on a particular topic and would like to understand it a bit better. whether you'd like to unpick a thought with a group of lovely people or just fancy a chat, let's do it.
Contribute ideas
Let us know if you have ideas for events, speakers or collaborations or any other suggestions for how to build and improve the project.
